The Honor Magic V2 has officially launched globally and it's making waves in the foldable phone market. With its incredibly thin design and powerful features, it's definitely a contender for the best foldable phone. Let's dive into the details of the Honor Magic V2.

Release Date and Price

The Honor Magic V2 was first unveiled in on July 12, but now it has made its global debut at the IFA conference on September 1. While there is no exact timeline for its availability in the UK and Europe, it is unlikely to be released in the US or Australia.

As for the price, it is uncertain at the moment. In China, the starting price is 8,999 yuan, which translates to approximately $1,250 / £980 / AU$1,920.

Design

The Honor Magic V2 is a large book-style foldable phone, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold. However, it sets itself apart with its incredibly thin profile. When unfolded, it measures just 4.7mm thick, and when folded shut, it is 9.9mm thick. It is also lighter than its rivals, weighing only 231g. This is achieved through the use of “proprietary steel” and a titanium hinge.

The phone comes in several color options in China, including Silk Black, Black, Silk Purple, and Gold, with a choice of glass back or eco leather. However, it is yet to be revealed if the same color options will be available globally. It's worth noting that the Honor Magic V2 does not have an official IP rating, so it may not be water resistant.

Display

The Honor Magic V2 features a 7.92-inch foldable OLED display with a resolution of 2156 2344 pixels. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. In addition, there is a secondary outer screen measuring 6.43 inches with a 120Hz OLED display and a resolution of 1060 x 2376 pixels. Both screens have around 402 pixels per inch.

These display specs are on par with other top foldable phones in the market. The Honor Magic V2 has smaller bezels around its foldable display compared to the Pixel Fold but slightly larger bezels compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Cameras and Battery

The Honor Magic V2 boasts a triple camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP main camera with an aperture of f/1.9, a 50MP -wide camera with an aperture of f/2.0, and a 20MP telephoto camera with an aperture of f/2.4. The main and telephoto cameras also feature optical image stabilization (OIS). On the front, there are dual 16MP selfie cameras with a punch-hole cut-out. The foldable design allows you to utilize the rear cameras even when using the cover screen. The phone supports video recording up to 4K quality at 60fps.

In terms of battery, the Honor Magic V2 is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which is larger than most foldable phones. It also supports fast charging at 66W. According to Honor, this allows the phone to be fully charged in around 45 minutes.

Specifications and Features

The Honor Magic V2 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is found in many top phones of 2023, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 line and the 11. It comes with 16GB of RAM and offers storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB.

Other notable features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 5G support, stereo speakers, and Android 13 software with the company's MagicOS 7.2 UI. Additionally, the Honor Magic V2 supports a stylus on both screens, which is included with the phone.

One interesting feature that Honor showcased in a video is the Parallel Space functionality, which allows users to run apps from the device's “Main Space” and “Parallel Space” simultaneously on one screen. This feature opens up possibilities for multitasking and using different versions of the same app on a single device.

In conclusion, the Honor Magic V2 is a global foldable phone that offers a slim design, powerful features, and competitive specifications. While the exact price and availability may vary depending on the region, it's definitely a device to keep an eye on in the foldable phone market.
